Choosing the Right Toy For a Child For Birthday Or Holidays

Choosing the right toy for a child

When shopping for a toy for a kid, there are so many things to keep in mind. As a parent, this may help anyone buying a gift for children.

Keep in mind the size. Is there enough room for the toy? Example, is there enough room for the train set you are looking to buy? Does the child have enough room for that doll house? Size is very important, while the toy may be something they would love, keep in mind storage and play area for the toy. Having a toy too big is such a hassle!

Is the toy age appropriate? Most toys these days do have an age printed on them for what age the toy is good for play. Be sure to follow that age suggestion because they are used for many reasons from the child’s mental capability to physical size. You wouldn’t want to get a 4 year old a toy that is meant for a 7 year old. They wouldn’t be happy with it and you would just waste your money.

Is the toy cost efficient? Meaning, does this toy need batteries all the time or does it plug into the wall or will it need a lot of accessories? Think about what it will cost to play with it or replace parts that may break or get lost. A big tip, when buying a child a toy that requires batteries, purchase extra batteries as well.

Check reviews online from customers that have bought the toy (if you know what you want to buy) and see what others thought of the toy. Is it well built? Are the parts easy to replace? How other children liked it and what parents thought of the over all value. If possible, research as much as you can, especially if you plan on purchasing a high priced toy. Who knows, that high priced toy may not be worth it!

Having a hard time finding a toy? Best bet is to call the parents or caregiver and ask! Or take the child to toy and walk the toy aisles and pay close attention to what they are picking up and wanting. Or you can flip through newspapers, magazines and look at cool toys. Talking to older kids will give you a huge insight on what they want and for younger children, asking the parents will be the best bet along with following the age suggestion on most toys now. I am a huge fan of learning toys, so for Christmas and birthdays I make sure to purchase learning toys that are fun and toys that are just toys.
